Crazy Eights Strategy: Tips to Win
Crazy Eights is quick, but it isn’t pure luck. Choosing what to play from a hand of options — and when to spend an eight — wins more rounds than the deal does.
Hold your eights
An eight can be played on anything, so it’s your escape card. Don’t spend it while you have another legal play; keep it for when you’d otherwise have to draw, or to finish the round.
Choose the suit you hold most of
When you play an eight, call the suit you have the most cards in. That gives you the best chance of playing again next turn — and if you know your opponent is short in a suit, calling it may force them to draw.
Watch what your opponent draws on
If your opponent draws instead of playing, they had no card of that suit or rank (and no eight). Steer the game back to that suit when you can.
Get rid of awkward cards early
Play cards from your longest suits and shed the ranks that are hard to match while the game is young. Late in the round, a hand of mixed singletons is hard to empty.
