Is capturing mandatory in checkers?
Yes. If any of your pieces can jump, you must jump; no plain move is allowed that turn. You may choose which capture to make, not just the longest one.
In Trindo, as in standard checkers, a jump is compulsory. When any of your pieces has a capture available, you can’t make an ordinary move with any piece.
What you get to choose
- If several captures are open, you pick which one to play. You aren’t forced to take the biggest chain.
- Once a jump begins, you must keep jumping with the same piece while it can.
Why it matters
Because captures are forced, a sacrifice is a weapon. Offer a piece and your opponent has to take it, which drags their piece to a square where you can jump two or three back. Before every move, check what capture your move would force on you.
Trindo highlights only the legal moves, so when a jump exists you’ll see only jumps.
