Can you move a group of cards in Solitaire?

Yes. Any face-up card in a tableau column can be moved together with every card on top of it, as long as the card you pick up fits where you drop it.

You don’t have to move a whole column at once. Pick any face-up card in a tableau column, and that card moves together with everything stacked on it. Only the card at the bottom of the group has to fit its new spot: one rank lower than the card it lands on and the opposite colour, or a king for an empty column.

What you can’t move

  • Face-down cards. They stay put until the cards above them are moved away; then the top one turns face up automatically.
  • Groups onto a foundation. Foundations take one card at a time, in suit order from ace to king.

Moving part of a stack is a good way to uncover a card underneath. The Klondike tips guide explains why freeing face-down cards comes first.
