Is every game of Solitaire winnable?

No. Each deal is a random shuffle, and some Klondike deals can’t be won however you play. Draw one with unlimited passes wins far more often than draw three.

Klondike deals aren’t checked for a solution before you play: the deck is shuffled at random. Some shuffles bury the cards you need under the cards that need them, and no sequence of moves can untangle them.

Why you can still win most games

  • Draw one lets you reach every card in the stock.
  • Unlimited passes mean the stock never runs dry.
  • Undo lets you back out of a line that went wrong, see does undo count as a move.

Many games that look lost are still winnable with careful play. The Klondike tips guide covers the habits that make the biggest difference.
