Right-click a cell on a computer, or long-press it on a phone or tablet. Do the same again to remove the flag. A flagged cell cannot be revealed.
Flagging marks a cell you think hides a mine, without revealing it.
How to place and remove a flag
- Computer: right-click the cell.
- Phone or tablet: long-press the cell.
- To remove a flag: do the same again on the flagged cell.
Only hidden cells can be flagged. Once a cell is revealed it cannot take a flag, and flags cannot be placed after the game is over.
A flag protects the cell
You cannot reveal a flagged cell. If you want to open it, remove the flag first. A flag also stops a blank cell opening its neighbors from revealing it.
Do you have to flag?
No. Flags are optional. Read the Minesweeper tips guide for when they help, or how to play Minesweeper for the full rules.
