Beginner is 9×9 with 10 mines, Intermediate is 16×16 with 40 mines, and Expert is 16×30 with 99 mines. Each has its own weekly leaderboard.
There are three board sizes, and each has a fixed number of mines.
The three boards
- Beginner: 9×9, 81 cells, 10 mines. That leaves 71 safe cells to reveal.
- Intermediate: 16×16, 256 cells, 40 mines. That leaves 216 safe cells.
- Expert: 16×30, 480 cells, 99 mines. That leaves 381 safe cells.
How crowded each board is
About 12% of Beginner cells are mines, about 16% on Intermediate and about 21% on Expert. Denser boards leave fewer blank areas, so Expert gives you less free information from each click, although your first click is always safe on every size.
Which board is the daily?
The Daily Minesweeper uses the Intermediate size, the same field for everyone that day. Free play lets you pick any of the three, and each size has its own weekly fastest-time leaderboard.
