How many cards do you deal in Crazy Eights?

On this pageThe starting card

Two players get seven cards each. One card is turned face up to start the discard pile, and the rest form the draw pile. That first card is never an eight.

Crazy Eights uses a standard 52-card deck. With two players, each is dealt seven cards. One card is turned face up to start the discard pile, and the remaining cards form the draw pile.

The starting card

The first card on the discard pile is never an eight, so the game can’t open with a wild card. The suit of that card is the active suit for the first player, who must match its rank or its suit, or play an eight.

  • Hand size: 7 cards each.
  • Draw pile: the 37 cards left after the deal and the starting card.
  • First move: the first player (Coral) goes first.
