How do you enter from the bar in backgammon?

Roll and enter on the point matching a die in your opponent’s home board. A point with two or more enemy checkers is blocked, and nothing else can move first.

A checker on the bar has to re-enter the board in your opponent’s home board before you may move any other checker. You enter it using one of the dice you rolled.

Which point each die enters on

Count from the point where your own checkers start, the 24-point for Ivory and the 1-point for Ebony. A 1 enters on that very point, a 2 on the next, and so on up to a 6 on the sixth point in.

What can block you

  • A point held by two or more enemy checkers is closed. You can’t enter there with that die.
  • A point with one enemy checker is open: you enter, hit the blot and send it to the bar.
  • Both entry points closed. If neither die can enter, you have no legal move and your turn passes.

If you have several checkers on the bar, all of them must come in before any other checker moves. Trindo only highlights the entries that are legal. How a checker gets there in the first place is covered in what a blot is.
